The Mayo Clinic is always on the forefront of heath research and its nephrology researchers are now exploring using adult stem cells to regenerate tissue in diseased kidneys. While this treatment is still in the very early stages of research, it has the potential to impact millions of lives as chronic kidney disease is a prevalent affliction resulting from diabetes, high blood pressure, or alcohol abuse. Without regenerating the functionality of the kidneys, the only treatments for the late stages of the disease are blood dialysis or kidney transplant.
