I recently had a complete health screening with an audio portion to test hearing. My hearing was down considerably and an hearing device was recommended. Dr. Lim Wye Keat, an ENT specialist was recommended to me and I called for an appointment at Assunta Hospital. I was directed to be at the hospital by ten a.m. the same day. The hospital was in Petaling Jaya and I drove there immediately. The Assunta Hospital is a large private hospital. The admission people were friendly and spoke several languages. I filled out the required information and was directed on where to go for my appointment. All the doctors had their own private rooms with secretaries seated at desks outside their doors and managed patients. I was taken immediately and was welcomed warmly by Dr Lim. We talked for several minutes about my condition and he explained with a diagram what was happening to my ear from the firecracker damage. It was the first time that a doctor explained my hearing loss in detail. I told him I had a health screening at Gleneagles and he had an office there as well. He explained what would be best for me with a hearing device and that I didn’t need one until my hearing had deteriorated more. He was in no hurry and we chatted for half hour about hearing aids, their costs and the best ones for me.
I then went to Gleneagles and tried out the hearing device the next day. It was a Norwegian hearing aid that fit over the ear and rested behind the ear. I could hear more clearly than I had in a long time. The cost of the hearing devices was RM5,000 per each ear and I needed two, one for each ear. This was considerably cheaper than the hearing aids in the U.S. and was also paid for by insurance companies. (not sure which company).
It was a good experience. Dr. Lim was outstanding and the staff friendly and spoke English. The audiology department at Gleneagles Hospital also were friendly and extremely helpful in advising me on the hearing aids. A week later, I received an email from Dr. Lim. He had checked my records at Gleneagles Hospital and gave me some additional advice.
I definitely recommend going to Malaysia for medical treatment. I have always had good results from the hospitals in Kuala Lumpur. Assunta Hospital was a good hospital and they also offered patients ayervedic medicine.
